Prince kept a sense of wonder around any day in Minneapolis. Everyone has a Prince story here. Everyone.
I frequent First Avenue. I have a head full of incredible memories there. As the news broke on Thursday that Prince had passed away I wondered what to do with myself. Naturally I flocked to the place that so many of us share with him. First Avenue. There were thousands of people in the street together to pay their respects and celebrate a man who means so much to everyone. The Current and First Avenue pulled together a party that should have taken months to organize. Several musical acts came to tribute him with covers. Lizzo even flew in from New York to perform her cover of The Beautiful Ones. It was humbling.
Over the weekend I went around to see more of what was happening at Paisley Park and around Minneapolis. Every building, bridge, and billboard was illuminated with purple as the city came together.
It was beautiful.
