She has become so much more relaxed and confident onstage and I feel like you can hear it in her newer releases.
Bully opened for Courtney during their sold-out two day First Avenue takeover. They blazed through a set of songs from their album Feels Like and I couldn't help but think of a 90's revival that mixes Nirvana with No Doubt (yes, that is very much a compliment).
Courtney and her band got onstage and shredded and droned through songs spanning their EPs and album. Barnett's lyrics take center stage as she touches on everything from social anxiety to environmental issues with playfully witty language that always leaves something new to be discovered. The stage design used light projection as a backdrop to their show which made it a lot of fun to watch.
I always love to see this lady live!
Side note: I can never say enough good things about an artist that puts time into meeting their fans before and after shows. Even as a shy new artist she graciously stayed after her show a few years ago at the Varsity until everyone got their turn to meet her after a fan caught her coming back out to grab her water. Last night at First Avenue she walked right up to fans in line to thank them for waiting in the cold to see her show and stayed after the show to take pictures with fans.
